Trash the Dress

A New and Increasingly Popular Tradition

Since the creation of human beings, people have been getting married. For many couples the ceremony is a matter of cultural, religious and family traditions. Daughters are getting married in the same way their mother’s did decades ago; sons are following in their father’s footsteps and upholding the customs of their ancestors. But, those times are changing, trash the dress is now the in thing to do.

Weddings are Much Different Today

Years ago, weddings were much simpler and honeymoons were usually local but today’s bride and grooms are planning weddings that are just a lot more fun and ripe for new traditions like Destination Weddings and Trash the Wedding Dress!

In your grandmother’s day, the wedding might have been a simple church affair, with only close family and friends present. If there was any honeymoon at all, it consisted of a weekend at a motel, in a neighboring town.

Your parents might have had a more elaborate ceremony, with the traditional wedding dress and three or four ladies attending the bride; you dad might have been in a tux, with a few of his best men at his side. They might have even planned a honeymoon in some romantic location for a week or two, if they were really well-off.

Best of Both Generations

Today, with the lagging economy, many couples are faced with ghosts from the past. They don’t want to just get married and set up housekeeping; but, they don’t have the money for an elaborate wedding and a romantic honeymoon. So, they are making their own tradition.

Trash the Dress in Mexico

Rather than choose between a great honeymoon and a fabulous wedding, many couples are opting for a destination wedding.

Instead of getting married and going on a honeymoon, the couple is going to the honeymoon to get married. It’s an excellent way to combine the expenses of wedding and honeymoon, and still have both. It is also the place for one of the most unique new traditions of all – trash the dress.

The Wedding Dress is but a Moment in Time

In the past, if your grandmother or mother had a nice wedding gown, it was carefully cleaned and preserved after the wedding. Your mother may even have worn her mother’s wedding dress that was specifically saved to pass down to the oldest daughter, when she was ready to get married. At least that was the idea.

Unfortunately it often didn’t work out that way. The dress became discolored, the daughter was not the same body-type, or she simply wanted something of her own and not borrowed or handed down. So, the dress essential hung in the back of the closet forever.

Not anymore!

Trash the Wedding Dress

Today, many women are choosing to get the most fun out of their wedding gown, even if they trash the dress. For example, the bride might choose to have pictures of her and the groom walking hand-in-hand and barefoot along a sandy beach. She might even want photos sitting cuddled up in the midst of a sand castle. Depending on how much she is willing to trash the dress, the photograph might suggest some nymph-like underwater shoot of the bride, with her hair and gown flowing with the current. Some of the more daring brides like to get pictures of them hiking in their wedding gown. Generally, when brides trash the dress, it’s combined with some scenic adventure associated with their . They really live in that dress for the day.
