Being a landscape photographer offers me the chance to escape the “rat race” of City life, traffic, people, stress, etc and escape to watch a beautiful sunrise or sunset in a local or far away location, to watch and study the light as it changes color during the day. It offers me the chance to recharge my batteries so that I can stay energized and enthusiastic for the rest of my “work” as a photographer – weddings, portraits, commercial photography, etc.

My Favorite Landscape Photographs

I haven’t taken my “most favorite” image as a landscape photographer yet, so I’ll leave the first space blank. It would seem obvious that the Delicate Arch photograph above is one of my most favorite photographs, and it is. However, I do have three more to share:

Mesa Arch, Canyonlands National Park, Utah, sunrise HDR photography

Mesa Arch, Canyonlands National Park Utah

Just as the sun peaks over the horizon, for a scant few moments, the sun reflects on the red rocks, and the underside of the Arch glows. A truly spiritual place, it makes me feel incredibly lucky to have the privilege to view as every one else on the planet is sleeping or too busy. It is even more spectacular if you are lucky enough to view sunrise at this location all alone !

Maybe this photograph is most memorable because it was probably the second hardest hike that I’ve ever been on. I’m still working on this image to get it “perfect”. I now have a 15mm fisheye lens, so I suspect that I will have to re-hike and retake the photo again…

This is from my highway photography collection that was awarded a trophy with PPOC-Alberta, and has sold a few times with my stock agencies

While four of my most favorite photographs as a landscape photographer seem to come from my Utah landscape photography gallery, it’s my Alberta landscape photography gallery that I’m most passionate about (for reasons stated in the beginning.) It’s just easier for me to get away in my own province of Alberta than doing a road trip to Utah or any other exotic location.
